Back in the spring, the GA broadened its community and business outreach efforts by hosting a unique Green Business Learning Series at the company’s downtown Portsmouth headquarters.
Marshalling the expertise of myriad partnering businesses, the GA hosted seminars on topics ranging from effective green branding to brand development, marketing, and effective social media strategies. The events were a resounding success, with dozens of other businesses and community members in attendance.
On Thursday, November 29th, the self-described “green business union” invites both business and consumer members to a new Learning Series installment focusing on renewable energy options and including presentations by Glacial Energy, Eco Firebox, SEA Solar, Simply Green Biofuels, and Ultra Geothermal.
Glacial Energy, a growing retail energy marketer and Partnering Business of the Green Alliance, provides green energy options for businesses and residential, offering customers local renewable energy sources including solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal.
In addition to discussing renewable energy sources, Glacial will offer insight on Renewable Energy Credits (RECs), the environmental attributes of one-megawatt hour of electricity generated from renewable resources.
Not only are RECs sold separately form electricity, making it easier for a buyer to purchase green power; they can also be purchased from various sources and in any amount.
Each business will discuss the renewable energy strategies for various sources including solar, geothermal, and biofuels.
Since the organization’s first learning series, GA Director Sarah Brown says she’s gotten positive feedback from businesses and community members alike.
“We pride ourselves on being able to provide both business-to-consumer connections, as well as business-to-business connections, and these seminars help to accomplish both,” says Brown. “We think that renewable energy is an important topic to keep on the forefront of business strategies and we want to provide educational resources for businesses and consumers to diversify their energy options. ”
The forum will also feature a talk by Harvard Professor Greg Norris, Founder of New Earth, who will discuss the concept of “environmental hand print,” or the positive impacts that businesses can have in reducing their carbon footprint.
“In addition to helping the green businesses in our communities expand renewable energy strategies, we also want to be sure that we are helping to educate around sustainability in commerce,” adds GA Director Sarah Brown. “We are very excited about sharing Professor Norris’ concepts on positive net impact which when coupled with a business working to reduce their environmental footprint can really provide a springboard to success.”
The seminars are free Green Alliance Business Partners and well as Green Card holders. Non-members can attend by purchasing a one-year membership for $25 at the door – $10 off the organization’s standard membership fees.
As with the GA’s previous Learning Series, the fall installment will be hosted from 5 to 7pm at the company’s 75 Congress Street (third floor) headquarters. Light appetizers and refreshments will be included. To RSVP to either of the Green Alliance Green Business Learning Seminars email sarah@greenalliance.biz.
